Lockerbie is known worldwide due to the tragic bombing of Pan Am flight 103, which came down over the town on December 21st 1988. The tragedy is remembered throughout the town, in the Garden of Remembrance at the Dryfesdale Cemetery, and in the stained glass windows of the Town Hall. It’s a charming town, built from red sandstone, and with several imposing buildings in its town centre. It’s an ideal base for commuters either to Scotland’s capital or to Carlisle, with fast trains passing through Lockerbie station on a regular basis.
