Falkirk
The Falkirk area is situated at the very heart of central Scotland. It’s a very well connected area, lying mid way between Edinburgh & Glasgow.
The historic town of Falkirk is a thriving retail centre with shopping malls, street markets, monthly farmers markets and the country’s longest fully pedestrianised high street.
The area is a fantastic place to relax, unwind and be entertained with magnificent parks and gardens, historical attractions, museums and galleries, fantastic sports and shopping facilities, a variety of restaurants and bars and all year round entertainment.
The area is home to the Falkirk Wheel, the world’s first rotating boat lift, centrepiece of the Millenium Link, the UK’s largest canal restoration project to re-establish the east to west coast transit of boats.
Stirling & Clackmannanshire
Stirling is widely considered as the link between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland. With a backdrop of mountains, rocky crags and the River Forth, Stirling is one of Scotland’s oldest towns and also its newest city.
Stirling is a University city with theatres, cinemas and contemporary art galleries. The city is a regional shopping destination whether you prefer the hundreds of stores in the Thistle Shopping Centre or the Victorian feel of the Crawford Arcade.
Central Scotland has many major attractions to the area, most noticeably, Stirling Castle. Situated at the head of Stirling’s Old Town, the castle stands at an important strategic crossroads guarding the crossing of the River Forth. Also in the area, you’ll find Argyll’s Lodging, a splendid and complete example of a 17th century townhouse and the Old Bridge which was built in the 15th or early 16th century – the southern arch having been rebuilt in the 18th century.
Easy access to both Edinburgh and Glasgow through excellent road and rail networks, make Central Scotland an ideal base for the commuter. The Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine rail link was re-opened recently after 40 years with services operating between Alloa, Stirling and Glasgow. Passengers travelling to Edinburgh will be able to do so via a connecting service at Stirling.
