Ratho Station is an attractive rural village surrounded situated approximately six miles to the west of Edinburgh. There are several shops within the village providing for everyday requirements. More extensive shopping facilities can be found in nearby Corstorphine, The Gyle shopping precinct where there is a large Morrisons store, Marks & Spencer, and other well-known retailers. There is an excellent primary school in Ratho Station and for secondary education most pupils attend Balerno High School.

Newbridge roundabout is just a few minutes away giving access to major motorway networks and nearby Park and Ride sites. Similarly, the city bypass in the opposite direction can generally be reached in a matter of moments. Edinburgh Airport is less than four miles away by car.  Ratho Station is therefore popular with commuters.

Local recreational facilities include a number of golf courses, one of which is Dalmahoy. There is a recently refurbished restaurant on the canal and country walks are all around. With the city of Edinburgh virtually on the doorstep, theatres, cinemas, restaurants, bars, indoor sports facilities and healthclubs are all within easy reach.
