Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre

Quick Search Makeover

If you use the Location field in our quick search facility, you will be aware of some quirks with the results returned. We have made some changes to how this works to improve what the search facility returns.

Before

If you typed in EH1, you ended up with properties in EH1, EH10, EH11, EH12, EH14, etc. Or if you typed in Dunbar, properties in Dunbar, Dunbarton and Dunbartonshire would be displayed. Not the most useful search facility.

The search worked by looking for anywhere in the address where the term you entered appeared.

Now

EH1 will just return EH1 and Dunbar will just return Dunbar. The search has been amended to only look for whole words. For example:

  • If you type in William, the search will return William Street but not Williamstone Court
  • If you type Mill, the search will return Niddrie Mill Avenue but not Millar Place

We think that this tighter approach to how the search works will make life a bit easier for those using espc.com. The one drawback to this change is that if you are used to typing in only part of an area name, say as Edin for Edinburgh, you will get far fewer results. This change also impacts on the use of a postcode in the Location box.

  • EH1 will return EH1 properties
  • EH1 1 will not return any properties
  • EH1 1L will not return any properties
  • EH1 1LL will return properties that match this postcode

We are currently planning what will go into the completely new version of espc.com that is planned for 2010. If you have any feedback please send it to marketing@espc.com.
