What the paper didn’t say

A word from Malcolm Cannon, ESPC CEO, on the important issues about the local property market.

You may have read an interview I recently did with Scotland on Sunday. A well written article by a top journalist, it captured a lot of the challenges that ESPC has been through recently and the ways we are looking at addressing those challenges.

As you would expect during an hour long interview there were many points covered that did not make it into the final piece. However, while the parts that did not make the final article may not merit coverage in the national press, I believe many of those issues are important to anyone interested in the property market in East Central Scotland.

So, I would like to take this opportunity to share these with you.

The article alluded to some of our past challenges and decisions that were made to invest in technology solutions for both our Scottish and English business. It also touched on ways in which we have trimmed costs in order to operate more efficiently.

What it did not emphasise was the incredible wealth of experience that ESPC has at its fingertips. I have spent some time estimating how many years of local property expertise we have at our disposal through our member firms. 200 members with, on average, 5 dedicated property professionals of, say, 5 years’ experience (many of them with many more than this) gives around 5,000 years’ knowledge of the local property market to tap into! Compare this with either a national online offering or a non-member estate agent and you can see why so many people choose ESPC ahead of our competitors.

This is also why we have the showroom – to show off not only properties but also our expertise. You can meet the experts at lunchtime or at the weekend for free. Whether that expert is a lawyer, a financial advisor, an architect or a pensions advisor, the ESPC acts as the authoritative hub for all things related to property sales.

Another point that was not covered was the quality of the ESPC staff. Our team has many years of experience in handling questions about various locales and in helping you search for your dream home. If you are nervous about where to start, what to expect, who to talk to or how much it might cost, come and talk to us.

And finally, one thing the article did not manage to cover, due to lack of space, was our market position. We say we are the Number 1 for Property in the region and we achieve this in so many ways. ESPC members market and sell more property than anyone else in East Central Scotland. No property paper is distributed as widely as ours. Visitors to our website come to us first when starting to look for a property. Our showroom has more property on display in one place than anywhere else in the UK.

ESPC and our member firms aim to make buying, selling or renting property as simple as possible. We have built our expertise over many years and are driven to make your next move a reality. We have a team who deal with property everyday waiting to help you. You just have to ask.
